At CASS we require that our accredited debt counsellors conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. Your function as a debt counsellor is to facilitate responsible financial advice and assistance to over-indebted consumers. Your client will ultimately be consumers experiencing debt related problems and you must understand the frustration and emotion they are experiencing and offer empathy and assistance.

Your ultimate goal is assist in the rehabilitation of the over-indebted consumer by educating and assisting him/her throughout the process. You must at all times be patient, empathetic, sympathetic and understanding to the consumer’s situation.

Our accredited debt counsellors are required to adhere to and indeed adopt our values:

  1. We demonstrate integrity and honesty in all our dealings with our stakeholders and our consumers.
  2. We ensure that over-indebted consumers are provided with the correct information at all times and on an ongoing basis.
  3. We never make unrealistic promises or commitments to consumers.
  4. We conduct ourselves in a professional manner and perform our duties in accordance with set requirements at all times.
  5. We take responsibility for the quality of work we produce.
  6. We regard all service providers and suppliers in the chain to be essential team members.
  7. We respect our consumers’ rights regarding debt review and above all their right to confidentiality.
